They must write it off at 180 days. There is a one time 30 day extension if they feel there is a reasonable possibility that the debt can be brought current. But, just because it's charged to p/l, doesn't mean they can't continue to try and collect internally. If per chance it does become current after chargeoff they can always book it as a "recapture".
