In 1999, my bank (National City Bank) in Indiana deposited 2500.00 in my checking account by mistake. Upon realizing their error, I went to my branch and told them about it. They said there was no mistake, and my account was free and clear. 5 diiferent times I told them this was not right, and they made a mistake. Each time I was told my account was free and clear. I eventually withdrew the 2500, and put it in savings. I eventually spent it. it took them 2 years before they realized it, and they closed my checking account and wrote it off. It is now in collections, though I have never heard anything from the collections agency. I went to the bank last week to try and work something out with them, but they refused to help me until I paid it off. They admitted to the error, but said it is MY problem, even though they screwed up. They have reported it to ChexSystems, which is keeping me from opening another checking account.Luckily, I have my paycheck direct-deposited into my wife's account and she pays all the bills. I did manage to purchase a home last year, with little trouble. I have a Mastercard, and make my payments on time. My credit is OK in all other aspects. The way the bank did me is the cause of much anger with me. I did send 2 payments to "loss prevention" division of the bank, but stopped when they never sent me a balance or proof of receiving my payments. Any suggestions people ??? I need all the help I can get. I have a good job, nice home, stabilty, etc. but this is the proverbial "Thorn In My Flesh". Any and all help would be appreciated.
