Judgement

I just recieved a letter from a collector saying I bounced a check in 1995 while in college. They also claim there is a judgement against me. The check was for like $20 and they want $540. Questions:
- I have good credit and have never seen this on my report, are they for real? Could there really be a judgement against me all this time without my knowledge? If so the Statute of Limitations on Judgements in this state is 5 years. I think they are trying to scam me.
