I live in the North Carolina area. I recently had a merchant charge my CC for a puchase that I had made. The merchant charged my CC and got authorization from the CC. The merchant then(by accident)credited the CC. When the merchant went be to recharge my CC it came back with a decline authorization. The merchant then took it upon themselves to charge another CC that I had on file with them. This happeed without my approval. I can call the bank to dispute the charge, but by the time this happens they would hve already credited my CC acount back and recharged the orignal card for the purchase that they mistakenly screwed up. They admitted to making a mistake.
What I would like to know is. Is it illegal to charge someone CC without authorization? And if so where can I find this in writing?
