In the "old days" of easy credit, a lot of people were getting those unsolicited "check loans".
Most of them were OK, but the ones like yours that defaulted are virtually uncollectible because you actually signed no credit agreement.

The reason it is not showing as charged off on yor report,is because it was such a " Mickey Mouse" kind of loan, it could nt be classified. Look at your credit report again, are you SURE it says the DOLA is a year BEFORE it is reported as opened?

I would not bother doing anything other than sending the letter I recommended. Send it CRRR, wait 30 days after you get the green card, then send a copy of it, and a copy of the green card to the CRA's with a demand they remove this from your report.
