With whom should I start?

I just got through finding all of the errors on my own and hubby's credit report. We are in VA, he since 1990, I since 1993. We got our first report from PrivacyGuard with all of the 3 CRA's. We then reported possible fraud/ID theft to the 3 due to unknown debt reported to a local collection agency this year (shows past due 01/02, sent 03/02, for which we have never been contacted).
Now, the big question is where do we start the validate and dispute process? Should I start with PrivacyGuard (they have forms for reporting errors in their packet) then go on to the 3, then to the CA or creditors in error?
Or would it be best to use WhyChat's great letter, with RRR, and send it out to everyone we find in error? We have a house, 2 decent cars, so we are not in any hurry for any major loans. I am just concerned about the time and $$ involved and would like to expidite this in the most logical and organized way.
Thank you all for your advice.
