A few months ago I got a call from Camco. The guy caught me totally off guard. It was regarding a debt from 1992. He had all the info on it. After insulting me for a while after I told him I didn't have the money to pay he also told me that I had a Mastercard that I could use to pay it off. I told him no way was I going to charge up my card and get back in the same position I was in all those years ago (ex-husband racked em up). He was willing to settle the account (which was now around $5000) for 500 and pressured me into agreeing.
Now I've just purchased my first home and they are calling again. Haven't spoken to them yet. Could this be for the same account or another? (I had about 3 delinquent) From some of the posts I've read, it sounds like I've done a bad thing paying as it may re-activate the debt. The guy assured me it would close out the account and I wrote that on the form I returned to them because it didn't mention that. That's another thing, the paperwork they sent was really cheesy looking. Just about a half sheet with hardly any information. The reason I even found this website is because it made me wonder if they were legit.
What should I do now? and was it a bad thing I paid them before? any help is appreciated
