Never "assume" anything when it comes to collection agencies, except that you CAN assume they will always lie to you.

Write them a letter, CRRR requesting validation of the account, proof of their authorization to collect on the account,copies of your signed application,and a complete accounting of the ALEGED debt.Plus proof of their license and/or bond under NY State law. Include in your letter the phrase, " this is not a refusal to pay, but a dispute of this account". DO NOT sign your name,print or type it.

The reason for doing it this way. is to make sure that they have a legal right to collect.
