There are several reasons.
1- You have applied for extensive credit that is dependant on a clean credit record,so their pursual of you now is likely to result in a no questions asked payment.
2- You are applying for credit for a large purchase that is an attachable asset, if you are within SOL they can file a judgment on your existing debts and insure payment.
3- The "garbage" scavanger bottom feeders will use this opportunity to put fraudulent old claims on your report for small nuisance amounts as they must be paid off to effect a closing on your mortgage.
