I would venture to say that the Statue of limitations has ran out for this account. Check with your states SOL's and verify. If in fact the SOL has ran out you can kindly tell them that you have an absolute defense. Simply meaning that they can try and collect the debt but it is too late. They could still try and take you to court over the matter but if you provide the courts with proof that the SOL is over they will surely throw the case out.
