I have an acount with Transamerica Bank with several late pays and settlement notation on it in my CRA file. It was settled in Feb of this year and at the time I didn't know you could negotiate how it was to be reported to the CRA's. The worst derog is 90+ days and its keeping me from getting a checking account. I don't know how I should dispute the account. Should I go with a "not mine" or "never late, paid" type of dispute?

Keep in mind that I have attempted to contact the CC company before and was informed the processing center address on my CRA report has been closed. The telephone number has been changed and it took me a half hour just to find a live person to talk to. They told me that they could not find the file in their computer systems and it may have been sold off to one of three companies in a portfolio.

I'm afraid I might accidently verify ownership of the account if I dispute the derogs, but if I try to have it deleted and succeed I will lose the chance at having an account with 5k of good credit over 2 years. Any thoughts on how I can word my dispute letter without it getting ignored or accidently verifying the account is mine?

BTW, kudos to Linda and Why Chat. Keep up the good work!
