sandra, I am going through the same thing. Mine is 13 years old. It has been charged off my credit report. But after reading books and talking to a few attorneys. I learn this people they can still come after me for thier money. Most credit cards are called open ends. Yes after 7 years they get drop off your credit report. Charged off simply states that they got drop off the books. The creditor can elect to pursue the debt as long as the sol in your state allows. Most CA would agree to a settlement. Less then the actual amount, they may even drop the intest. He/She had no right saying those things on the answering machine. Sandra ask for your old account information, tell them to send you all the information, most likely they won't because they don't have it. I read two books and I recommed to everyone going trough this. Life After Debt, by Benjamin F. Dover and the second one Debtor's Rights, by Gundrun M. Nickle
