Nothing stops them from buying 50 year old debts. CAMCO is a bottom feeder. They root for garbage. They buy up old, past SOL, uncollectables and then hope that the person who owes the debt doesn't know the law. Unfortunately they are very successful because most people don't know the law. The best you can do is send them a cease com letter and maybe file a lawsuit for any violation of the FDCPA you can prove. However trying to collect a debt that is past SOL is not in itself a violation of the law. Technically you still owe the money but,legally, you dont have to pay. They buy these debts for pennies in hope of forcing some uninformmed consumer to send them money.
