After a call I made 3 weeks ago to Gulf State requesting something in writing regarding my account, I rec'd a payment coupon in the mail today, the balance of $5330.96 (principal due $2,954.70 and interest due $2,376.26) It said something like "Thank you for your promise to pay the full amount by the agreed upon date of October 5" which nothing was promised or agreed upon. I just told them on the phone that I'd see what I can do and get back to them. When I had spoken to the rep she said that they'd settle for about $3000. She was giving me options that I could make to pay but I couldn't afford what they wanted. No info regarding the original creditor was included. I have a feeling I know which credit card this is for but am not certain. Do you think that I should just go ahead and send a certified letter of validation. I hope that I didn't mess anything up by calling them and trying to work something out. I keep seeing these things about SOL. I live in Maryland. Any suggestions or advice? Thanks!
