when i was 18 i had a montgomery wards acct. that i defaulted on. the balance is unknown and no recipts excist in my possesion. now 13 yrs later Camco call and wants 3 authorized 186.00$ drafts from my checking acct. or they will sue me for the full amount of 1100.00(which includes interest). in my disbelife and horror, they said if i hung up to consult with my husband they would consider it a sign of dispute and sue me, so i gave them my acct#. my husband immediatly closed the account called them back and said we dont have the funds at this time to pay it and offered them 50.00$ a month untill the dept was payed. they said no but they would accept a lump sum payment of 350.00$ if we paid by the end of this month.

here are my questions.
first are we obligated to this dept that is more than 13 years old?
second if we are how much do we owe because they bought this acct. from another collection agency and they have no documentaion or records.(they did state that an investigation could provide the information but we would be liable for the expense in the event of a lawsuite).
finnally i just dont have the 350.00$ dollars to give them in a lump sum payment what are my options, i would like to ovoide paying "their" interest fees!

thanks for any advice you can give,
nagel.
