You have a more serious problem now because you "wrote a check" and closed the account. Now, they have a "valid" debt against you. Before, they had nothing. I understand that it was under duress but you are now in the position of having to prove that they made illegal threats against you and that you were not acting of your own free will. This can now go to TeleCheck and on your credit report for 7 years. You need to see an attorney. Do not ignore this problem. It won't just go away.
