I will try to be civil, however to make a claim on this board, as you did that serves to intimidate and frighten people into agreeing to be mugged made me very angry. EVEN if it were a written check, sent out and payment stopped, or the account changed, as in this case,there is NO liability unless the check was for a legitimate purpose. If someone came up to you and held a gun to your head and forced you to write him a check, you would not be responsible for a "bad check" if you closed the account or put a stop payment. The laws of EVERY State, and Federal FDIC laws ALL exempt "bad check" charges in the case of a fraudulent transaction. If that were not the case, millions more people would be scammed by con men, fake telemarketers and blackmailing con artist collection agencies.
