time limit for sending information...

I live in California and I got a letter from a collecting agency making a claim for $2200 dollars, I sent them a letter asking for the debt details (requests the name and address of the original creditor), is being more than a month and I haven’t heard anything from them. Is there a time limit for them to send me my request?, or they can take as long as they want and keep collecting the debt after they send me the information?…
