By the dates you mentioned it sounds as if you are very close to having that item fall off your credit report. When did you quit CCCS? Whenever it was it wouldn't matter, if they never paid Providian. The 7 years started when you missed your first payment and never caught up again. The date of last activity is not the date you use to determine the 7 years. The unwritten rule seems to be - if it is past the SOL date and past, or close to being past, the 7 year reporting date...forget it. Paying it will upgrade it to "paid" but it will still be a charge off in your report, not much better and not worth $3739...save your money. As for the morality of paying your debt...you are dealing with Providian -- morals don't apply.
