credit card debt

I need help please. I have credit card debt around $6,000 that I can't pay. They are calling me constantly such that I don't even answer my phone anymore. I don't work because I have a problem with tramatic arthritis caused from a two broken bones in my ankle several years ago. I own no property except a '87 Ford. I have no way to pay these bills. My husband works but it takes all he makes to pay our regular (lights phone etc.) bills. What should I do? I've thought of filing bankruptcy myself. This credit card bill is in my name only. I need any suggestions/help I can get and I'd appreciate it greatly. I live in NC
