My husband purchased a car in December. The account is in his name only. Since then we've had some unexpected emergencies that drain our finances so we got behind on a few things. We get collection calls from this company all the time, practically everyday from sun up to sun down. Lately, we have been sending our monthly payments plus an extra $75-$100 to bring it back to current. We're now only $36 past due for August and September's pymnt was due on the 25th. I believe this is their in-house collection department that's calling us, but the other day, "Sam" called my house and told my son that my husband told him to call me at work. So my son gives him my work number. I immediately told him that he could not call me at work when he called and that I could not talk to him. He called me right back and told me that he wasn't going to split hairs with me because I should pay my bills on time. I hung up on him. My husband told me that he hadn't spoken to anyone at this company and no one had called him. This morning another rep left a message for me at work. I called her back and explained that we planned to pay(as always)including the $36, but to take my work number off her list. I will be happy to write a letter if I needed to but please do not call me at work. NOt answering my question about the lettr, she goes on to tell me that my husband arranged a two month extension but she could not do that until she recieved $36 plus $100 extension fee. I've never heard of an extension fee? She said that in the state of Mississippi there's a $50 extension fee for each month. Do you know of such law? They have my husband's work number and our home number. Why are they calling me and not him? How can I get them to stop calling me at work and interrogating our children for information. It's not that they don't know how to get in touch with us. We have no intentions of defaulting on the loan. I just can't believe they would go through so much trouble for $36. What can I do if they continue to call me at work?
