PLEASE HELP- Collections question

I have 2 accounts that have just gone to collections. Both are approx. $2000 each. One is from MBNA, one is from Spiegel. I haven't made payments since 7/02. What is my best course of action? I cannot pay them right away. Should I negotiate a payment schedule? Is it possible to negotiate that they be removed after payment? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!!!
