katherine i believe you mean well but fact is your 100 % WRONG in some of your statements .. ok 1st off never never ever send a cease & desist letter IF the accounts is still within the state you reside in statue ( SOL ) for collecting the debt becouse yes it most likely will make them upset therefore naturally they will file a law suit for judgement .. another fact IF the said account is past YOUR states SOL & you are still being bothered by those pain in the butt collectors ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS send them a cease & desist letter return receipt requested requesting they STOP ALL ACTIONS IDENTIFYING THE DEBT & they go away bye bye see ya later & nothing legally the creditor can do to collect on the debt .. are there execptions to the rule , of course there is , they can sue but i can sue you you can sue me an so on but with vaild proof the debt is past SOL you lose in court .. fact , credit reporting services such as experian transunion equifax report bad credit for 7 yrs from date of 1st default whether the states SOL is up or not meaning im in nevada the credit bureaus report for 7 yrs but after 4 yrs in nevada they can no longer win a suit again the debtor but hey gotta still live with the remaining 3 yrs with derogatory credit on the report , oh well lives tough but moves on so we all do , ... kelly
