I had a leak recently and carpet was damaged. Insurance company is replacing.

HOWEVER . . . . it was the dining room and hallway carpet that was damaged. The hallway backs on to the staircase and there are two short flights going up stairs from the hallway and two short flights going downstairs from the hallway.

They said they would replace the carpet on the two short staircases going down but only one of the two going up - even though it is the same carpet. They said it is because "out of the line of sight".

They also said they would not replace carpet in family room even though this IS in line of sight. As you enter the front door, your eyes go down the hallway and fall straight on the carpet in the family room. Their reason? There is one drop-down step separating the hallway from the family room.

The alternative is to match the existing carpet but that is very unlikely - it is gold and old.

I have had two adjusters out here. The first one was going to cover everything - then he got canned. It is the second one I am having the problem with.

Initially, my agent and all my friends who have had claims told me they replace "all like carpeting" but that is not what I am finding.

Any advice or tips here?
