I'm terrified actually. Sears is taking me to court on a debt which has grown 4x from what the orginal credit limit on the card was. I go in about 4 weeks. I've never even been inside a court room. I have no idea what they'll do to me, or what they can do to me.To top it off, I'm barely making minimum wage and only working part time. My husband isn't mentioned in the lawsuit, and its just as well, as his income and mine combined barely cover our necessities and with winter coming I'm not sure we'll be able to pay our utility bills.
Further, I'm being threatened over a debt to my alma mater, and with such a limited income I don't even know how to negotiate with these people. So I've mostly just been avoiding them.
Please advise. I'm really starting to feel backed into a corner. We rent, we make payments on our car, we own nothing. What can we do?
