1 - According to the FDCPA Wollman opinion letter:
" Mere itemization of what the debt collector already has does not accomplish this purpose [of validation]."

They have to provide something with your signature on it, like a contract. If your ex used your SSN w/o your knowledge, that's fraud !

2 - The SOL DOES apply, but I believe it comes under the written contract SOL.

3 - Its my understanding that if they didn't answer all the questions and didn't sign it, then you have them for violating the FDCPA.

I don't think you're screwed yet. Write them another letter and tell them they have failed to provide proper validation. There are sample letters for this at www.creditinfocenter.com
