A problem that just came about today. I called Alarm One Inc (residential security systems) to cancel my 24 month contract with them...knowing that it was to 'expire' sometime this fall. The Rep told me that they automatically renewed my contract since they didn't hear from us prior to our original contract expiration date which was Sept 1st '02. He said that it was stated in my ORIGINAL contract from 2 years ago that if they are not called, they automatically renew. I explained to him that I don't carry the contract around in my back pocket waiting for the expiration to come up. I told them I still wanted to cancel and they insisted I couldn't!!!! So now I am renewed automatically for 12 months...no notice of renewal, no form in the mail stating this... NOTHING! The money is automatically debited from our checking account in which I now want to put a "STOP" from the withdrawl from being taken out each month (one time fee of $28.00 to stop payment). The Rep told me if I did that, it would be escalated to a collection agency and would go from there, etc. My credit scores are in the 700's. I want to FIGHT it because I am angry that Alarm One does not send out notices....but don't want to ruin my good credit... Do I keep paying for the next 12 months (give in) and keep the good credit or risk a judgement by not paying them???????? Please help! I am SOOOO angry with them over this!!!!!!!
