I purchased some land in the state of Ohio back in 1988. It was sold to me by my father, 2 uncles, and an aunt. They held notes for the sale amount payable in full no later than 1994. At the time I lived in Alabama and still do. The plan was for me to develope the raw farm land and make it into a subdivision and sell off the lots. I invested a considerable amount of money into the development of the land and ran way over the engineers estimates. I completely sold off the lots in 1998, 4 years longer than expected to complete the project. Interest and other over-runs cost so much that I didn't have enough to pay the family members off in full. Since that time I've heard nothing from anyone, but now, just over 14 years since taking out the notes, I received a letter from an attorney that my aunt and the widow of one of my uncles have authorized him to take whatever measures necessary to secure payment. I currently live in Alabama which has a sol of 6 years. Ohio has an sol of 15 years. What exactly can they do? If they sue me in Ohio can they collect on me in Alabama, or do they have to sue me here. If they file suit here in Alabama does Alabamas much shorter sol take precidence? What can they do after all this time?
