I checked my records on the American Express acct which has now being handled by NCO Financial Services. The last regular payment made, without any late payments or late charges, was 11-17-01. This was prior to me signing up with a CCS to consolidate my debts, so no payments were made to American Express again until 3-15-02. After realizing the CCS program was not going to help, no other payments were made until 6-19-02. On 7-25-02, I received my first letter from NCO Financial stating they were handling my account, and from that, they would not accept any type of monthly payment arrangement, only demanding I pay the $24,000 balance in full immediately, which I cannot do. Should I have been contacted by NCO when I was making some payments to American Express? It wasn't like I wasn't paying at all. They turned me over to NCO without trying to work a payment plan. Can I catch up the past due payments and start paying the regular monthly payment to American Express, or do I have to deal with NCO. I would like to try to pay monthly and work something out with American Express as I did with my 3 other creditors. I live in Louisiana.
