Each State has not only it's own SOL, but it's own "starting date" called "cause of action". California is one of the States that begins counting from the last transaction date. That is the last payment on an account or the last charge (not added interest or late fees) The collection agent was confused at best, or just plain lying(which would be a BIG surprise) I have linked the Cal. statutes from my website below for you to read.
