If this is a Federal Student Loan (i.e. Stafford) then you "MAY" be able to apply for loan rehabilitation where the agency must work with you on establishing a reasonable monthly payment - after a certain period your loan would then be granted regular loan payment status. You might try a deferment based on hardship if you can demonstrate that. Search on "google" for student aid, student loan deferent, etc. You could always contact the Federal Student Aid office (only if it is a Federal Loan). Also, I believe, that a Federal Student Loan can not be discharged in BK or at least very, very rarely. Don't wait - start looking into this.
