Providian closed my account!

I received a letter today stating Providan closed my account two days ago, based on a credit re-evaluation. I have had this account for four years, and is in good standing with this account, in addition to all other open lines of credit. My problem with this is, my account was assessed the yearly credit card fee of 89.00 last month. Also I enjoyed having the high line of credit on my report. I would like your input please, for I am wondering if I should contact providian and offer a settlement on the balance owed ( I don't really want to pay them now, but will offer a settlement), also I'd like to have them remove the 89.00 fee, and would like them to place on my credit report that account was closed by customer. Is this realistic or unreasonable??? Help!
