Asset Acceptance practices

Hi. I am from Missouri and have a Providian account (in the amount of $1100) in collection by Asset Acceptance and last activity was 10/98.

Anyway, this guy (Kevin Martin for all those out there) called my house last week and talked to my wife about this collection, and was telling her that 'he is watching me' and asked why I got a loan from a loan company back in Sept. and asked if it was for a house. My wife told him none of his business. She told him that we weren't married at the time and that she knows nothing about it.

So anyway, I get this letter today that says (and I am quoting here) 'If this matter is reduced to Judgment, the amount owed will be increased by court costs. After the Judgment is entered, we will be authorized by law to institute garnishment or execution against your wages or non-exempt property' and so on.

Question: I thought that they cannot say anything about garnishment or query about any loans that I may have.

Any ideas? I really appreciate it.

Thanks.
Rob
