Harassment from another creditor on settled account

Hello,
I hope someone can help me with this problem. In January 2002 I negotiated a settlement of a charged-off account with Allied Interstate (the original account was with citibank). Since that time the debt had been removed from my credit report. Now another company, Munson Law Offices is demanding the remainder of the original balance on the credit card. They have since entered this balance on my credit report as a new entry. Allied Interstate has not sent me a letter of completion stating that everything has been settled, but when I talk to them they say that everything was settled in full. They did send me a 1099-C because of the amount written off. And to top it off one of the collectors at Munson Law offices rudely told my mom to, "get a q-tip and clean her ears out", when she asked him to repeat a statement that he had made to her.

I'm not sure when the original account was charged-off, because I tried to pay through a debt consolidation agency for a while. All payments stopped in October 2000.

I feel like a fool, because I should have read this board before making the hasty decision of settling that charged-off account.

Please help
T.
