Send validation request - now get letter from lawyer

I send a letter to validate to NextCard. I dispute a portion of the debt because for 6 months they charged me for credit insurance. They began charging me for this 3 month AFTER I became unemployed (kinda like buying car insurance after the wreck, huh?).

I never heard back from them, but have now received a letter from a local attorney.

This attorney tells me I have 30 days to question the validity of this debt, however he also states...

"That you have thirty days to notify this office of a dispute as to the validity of all or any portion of this debt may not prevent this office from filing a lawsuit within that time. This letter shall not be construed to amend or waive any of the provisions of the contractural relationship between you and Nextbank or related credit documents."

I'm confused... I thought they could not proceed until they verified the debt.

Help please!

Thanks.
