As far as bringing it up as a defense, what if you have no proof? I swear, I kept all those old documents and credit reports for years, and finally threw them out (file cabinet getting too full) and not a month after, the CA called me. If you bring it up as a defense, can you just say "This was an old account I had in 92" Is there any way to obtain proof from the original creditor?
