I was hoping someone reading this forum would be able to offer some advice on dealing with American Express concerning a charged-off account listed on my bureau reports. The account is from a corporate card I was issued while with a former employer. After leaving employment I was issued my final reimbursements for travel related expenses but neglected to actually pay American Express. I'm not going to list all the hard-ships that led up to this, there aren't any, I basically just screwed up. American Express has not contacted me about the debt since a few months after I failed to pay and as far as I know a collection agency does not have the account. The amount I owe is fairly substantial (about 6500) but I would be able to pay most or all of it pretty quickly. I'd really like to hear from others that have dealt with American Express in a similar situation. Did you find them open to negotiation on the amount owed? Are they at all willing to change the status of the account from Charge Off to Closed/Paid as Agreed in exchange for full or close to full payment? If I'm going to contact them where should I begin, customer service? In the last few years I've really come a long way in taking better care of my credit and obligations. This is one of the last big fudge-ups I still have haunting me and I'd love to address it. If you can offer any advice it would be greatly appreciated! -phill
