Your broker, however well meaning, is wrong. You may be able to get them to remove the tradeline, but CAs do not always do what they promise...And it will take a while...Count on 30 to 60 days. More than likely, the CA will take your money, update the account to PAID, which is not any better than UNPAID - it's still a collection account and sell the balance [ if there is any ] to another CA.

I'll repeat the suggestions other have given or inferred:

1. Dispute the collection accounts with the CRAs. Dispute 2 or three or them with each bureau as NOT MINE. Wait out the 30 validation period. You may get lucky and have removed. ***Potent Score Improver - but you may need a little luck.

2. Pay down existing credit cards. Look on your credit report. Add up all the credit limit the report shows. Don't go by the actual credit limits - use what each card reports. Now add up the balances shown for each card. Divide the balances by the limits to get your current usage. Using less than 25% of your available credit is worth quite a few points - more than enough to put you above your 580 goal.

The nice thing about #2 is that YOU control it and it posts relatively quickly - less than a month, unless today happens to be the beginning of your billing cycle.
