In 1987, I defaulted on my Visa in the amount of $3800. In 1991, I disputed all the fees they had tacked on and told them by phone I would pay $5000. I didn't pay it. After 7 years it disappeared off my credit report. That was way back in 1995! Now I'm getting letters from a "group of attorneys" who are requesting that I pay over $14,000 which includes late charges and penalties that have accrued on that unpaid Visa bill over the past 15 years!! "You have an impeccable credit history, so we know you'll want to take care of this immediately. We're not a collection agency. We work for a group of attorneys who buy these accounts, and they must have noticed what a perfect credit history you have..."
The statute of limitations in Texas is 4 years, so they can't sue... If the time limit for negative reports to a credit bureau is 7 years... can they still report this and ruin my credit? How can I get them out of my life???
