disputing inquiries

I have a few inquiries by one CA on my TU report I'd like to try to address. I have two questions regarding what apporch to take.

1. The inquiry is not in the name of the CAs name, but does appear to be an acronym of a company that was purchased by my CA in 1999. The inquiries are all from the past year and my account was never with the previous company. In my state, debt collection must be done in the name of the company that is licensed by the state. As pulling inquiries is a debt collection practice, are they bound to use their licensed name?

2. The debt they were trying to collect was past the SOL. I send an appropriate letter and they seem to have ceased communication. Would it be worth disputing the permissibilty of the purpose with TU? Or are disputes over inquiries just passed over?

Any other clever thoughts?
