They are ignorant. They are used to filing suit and no one showing up. In mediation they ganged up on you. In fron of a judge (hopefully) it will be the LAW, and nothing but the law.

As far as feeling like a thief, play act a little. Pretend it is NOT your debt. Wouldn't you be furious? Wouldn't you be insulted? Well, they don't have the proof that it's yours - they said they didn't. So, you should get your head into a better place about the debt. Then you won't be so intimated. Seriously. Just pretend it isn't yours, because at this point it doesn't make any difference. We all do the best we can at any given time, I think.

When observer talked about bumping it up to a different venue, I think he meant YOU should bump it, not that they would. You can sue them where you live, you don't have to go to them. Not only that, but for this sort of thing, you may be able to get an attorney. Doesn't the law provide for legal fees if you win? Maybe the legal beagles can answer that one.
