Jack,

If they're all within your State's SOL, then you don't have a lot of choices. As much as I hate to say it, you're probably on the right track unless you want to file for bankruptcy. I'm in the same boat, at least 6 accounts gone to charge-off this year. I may still file for BK, but I don't know yet.

The thing with settlements is to do everything in writing, and use certified mail with RRR for all correspondence. It gives you a traceable paper trail and dates to use.

Next, when you're negotiating, and it could just mean waiting for a little time to pass, try to get the CA to wipe out their entry on your CR entirely in return for the money you'll settle for. You also want to negotiate for a 'paid in full they won't sell the balance to anyone else' deal.

Once you start settling and dealing with CA's, the others you have NOT paid are going to come out of the woodwork. There's no sure way to know if you'll get away w/o being sued by any of them, but I think you have to try to deal and pay ONE at a time if you can do it. I don't know about you, but it takes a few months to save up enough to settle just ONE account, let alone 5 or 6 !

You might want to try reading about debt settlement over at creditinfocenter.com. They have some good letters and good suggestions on how to proceed with it.

Good Luck !
