Collector's attitude

I have a debt with a collector that I am diligently
working to pay off. It is around $10,000. The month of October, I have sent them $2000. It is well within the SOL, but I fell behind with divorce. I am in MN and he is a New Yorker.... I have promised to pay them as much as I can as soon as I can,
but this CA is being very rude, and pushy. He calls
me at least weekly, sometimes a couple times and expects me to return his calls. Gets mad when I don't call him back~~even though I am sending weekly checks. I "WANT" to pay this, but don't understand his attitude. He has threatened to sue, has asked for
post dated checks for this amount, and doesn't even offer me an 800 number to call him on.
MY QUESTION: Why is he being so nasty, is he just trying to scare me? I hate talking to him...he's so rude and he is scarey!! Can I just ignore his calls
and keep sending $ until it's cleared up? Doesn't he have a good thing going with me sending so much cash his way? Do you think he would sue me? To me, that just wouldn't make sense even though it's a large amount. Advise? Opinions??? Thanks
