Newbie Credit Problem

Hello I need some advise on some credit problems I am having. I have 4 credit cards that I stopped payment on approx January of this year. Total debt on the four cards is about $4200.00. I can make the payments now if I need to, but after reading some posts i'm not sure if I should. I checked my credit report today and all four cards have been charged off. I am receiving calls from collectors non stop. Should I contact the creditors and make the payments, or is it too late to deal with them directly. Can I make an offer to pay them the balance in exchange for the removing the info from my credit report? Listed below are the cards and approx balances. I live in NY state. Thanks in advance for your help.
Aspire Visa - $1000
Capital One M/C - $500
Sears - $500
