old debt

about six years ago after aquiring about 30,000 in various credit card debt due to a divorce and a severe pay cut, I had to stop paying on all of my cards. I had at first gotten many phone calls wanted to collect. For the past 2-3 years the phone calls have almost stopped, and I am only getting a few letters. I really want to clear up my credit. My debt was acquired in Mich but I now live in Fl. I have new credit cards, but only with 500.00 limits,(which is fine) I just need to know how to clear up this mess. Can someone tell me where to turn.
