Why Chat couldn't be more right.
When I was in banking, I took a turn in collections and I'll just tell you there is not one damn think friendly about it. Doesn't matter if it's in house or 3rd party. The collectors job is to briing money in by fair means or foul. In my experience, the consumers idea of reasonable and mine were worlds apart. You just do what you gotta do.
My thoughts about sites like this is for the consumer to get a fair shake. Nobody forces anyone to get in the collection business and if they do, they need to obey the law. If a collector can validate and does the things the FDCPA requires and the debtor won't pay then, it doesn't matter who owns the debt or how much the CA paid for the debt, or, how it is reported, the CA ought to be able to go to court and hand someone their a$$.
Conversely, if the CA violates the law and tries to run roughshod over someone then, the consumer needs to know how to protect themselves.
I think this site and others do a good job of trying to educate people of their rights. The thing many people seem not realize is sometimes, the CA may well hold all of the cards and the calvary just ain't coming. Sometimes no matter how nasty they are you just have to be able to realistically realize it's time to cut the best deal you can.
