Does chexsystems check credit or just look for bad checks?

I want to open a local checking account but I know on my credit report that I have a paid charge-off, as well as a few unpaid medical bills from an auto accident that is still in court with the insurance company of the driver who hit me. When I apply for a checking account now with my local bank, will chexsystems show the charge-offs and medical collections? Or is it simply a national database of bad check writers? (i have never bounced a check) Thanks in advance,
