Thanks for all the information! It is getting rough. We have had to borrow against the cards due to my husband not getting paid what he was supposed to be (a long story). We did this to keep our health insurance and make our house payment, car insurance and things that we have to have, not to have fun & frolic. :0) We only have one vehicle that isn't paid for, so only one car payment. I personally haven't been more than a day or so late on payments, and, not more than a couple of times in the last year or so (normally because I pay on line and a few times went slightly past that "cut-off" time they list) but, the companies have still slapped me with a $29 or $35 late charge as well as gone up on my interest rate-drastically. I'm glad to hear from others that the debt relief programs are what I had heard in the past. They say on their site that it won't hurt your credit and there is no cost (but once you have started getting back on your feet, to send them a "donation", or something, that they work for "free". I thought that was too good to be true. I had almost started to give information to Amerix (which Lower My Bills recommended on their site), but sure am glad I asked here before I did it!
