SOL past ..IN THE CLEAR????

I have a copy of a note that I signed in 1994. The note says I will pay $, no interest, by end of 1994 or before. I have been contacted about paying this Debit by a Collection Agency. ALl I should do is respond with a letter stating that in NJ the SOL for this debt is 6 years and that would have been Dec 2000. The SOL for Credit Reporting is also 6 years so please do not attempt to put this on my credit report. When this is all said and done I should be in the clear? Anybody that wants to gove me some advice please.
