ALMOST at SOL (3 1/2 yrs)

Help!!! California's SOL is 4yrs and I was just now contacted by a collection agency a few days ago regarding a 2nd mortgage I had in 1999. When my home foreclosed, I thought both loans were paid off because I NEVER heard from anyone again. After a lot of talking I agreed to pay $25.00 a month. But I got to thinking about the SOL and I am worried that if I pay the $25 it will re-start my delinquecy date. Will it?
And if it doesn't start, how do I put this agency off for 6 more month's so that they won't file a lawsuit?
Can ANYONE advise PLEASE??????
